Copper was the first metal used to make a sword. The sword is a symbol of bravery and leadership. It is representational of the warrior who stands to defend and protect a greater cause than his own self interest.

The Copper Sword is presented annually by the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Society, Unified Arizona Veterans  and the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services to a Civilian with ties to Arizona who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help further the initiatives of veterans, patriotism and humanitarianism.

Please note that the individual selected cannot have served in the US Military, nor can they presently be holding elected political office or have done so for at least two years. The Copper Sword Award is normally presented on or about Arizona Statehood Day, in February.

2010 Copper Sword Award Recpient

Jesse McGuire has played an amazing rendition of our National Anthem to over five and a half million people per year. Jesse has been heard at professional sporting events and various functions all across the country. His most notable performances were at the 2001 World Series, for which, he received a World Series Championship Ring from the Arizona Diamondbacks. After which, Jesse was the subject of questions and answers on both Hollywood Squares and Jeopardy TV game shows, in addition to the TV show, "Entertainment Tonight." He also performed the National Anthem at two Arena Bowl (Arena Football League, 1995, 1997) Championships, the 2000 Daytona 500, 1993 NBA Finals, and numerous anthem performances for the NFL, MLB, Arena Bowl, NHL, MLS, and the NCAA. Jesse also paid a moving patriotic tribute to those who were lost, by performing Amazing Grace, and God Bless America at Ground Zero, on October 20, 2001. The great smoldering pile of rubble once known as the World Trade Center was still on fire during his performance.
