Unified Arizona Veterans (UAV)
The purpose of Unified Arizona Veterans (UAV) is to support and endorse legislative actions at both the state and federal levels that further the general welfare of all Arizona Veterans and their families. It is dedicated to activities and objectives that stimulate love of state and country and is committed to defend the honor and integrity of our Nation, the Constitution of the United States of America, the American Flag, and the State of Arizona. The Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame is a major program of Unified Arizona Veterans.
Unified Arizona Veterans meets the first Saturday of each month (except August) at the Arizona State Veterans' Home, Liberty Hall (2nd Floor) 4141 North 3rd Street, Phoenix 85012, and beginning at 10:00 a.m. For additional information call (602) 234-8436 or e-mail dadams@azdvs.gov.
Mel Brody is Chair of the UAV. Mel served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 and is Past Commander, Department of Southwest, Jewish War Veterans of the USA serving on the national executive and policy committees. Mel is also a Past Department Commander and 55-year member of the American Legion. Mel is the first recipient of the A&E "Lives that Touch Others" award and was inducted to the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in 2005. Mel was chosen as the City of Scottsdale's veteran of the year and man of the year and has received several awards from both the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Arizona State Veterans Home. Mel was also appointed to Governor Napolitano's Blue Ribbon Committee, and serves on the Memorial Day National Cemetery Committee. He retired from Nutone, Inc. with 35 years of service. Mel and his wife, Maxine, reside in Scottsdale.
Bob Delker is Vice Chair of the UAV. He was born in Portland, Oregon in 1931. Joined Oregon National Guard in 1947, entered U.S. Army in 1949. Served in Korea, discharged in 1958 with rank of Warrant Officer. Continued in California and Alaska National Guard, retired in 1991 as Chief Warrant Officer 4. Qualified rotary and fixed-wing pilot. Worked 15 years as the Corporate Pilot for Valley National Bank. Received Arizona Medal of Valor and Arizona Distinguished Service Medal with “V” for heroism for rescue operations during the 1978 Salt River floods. Past President of Military Officers of America Association, Arizona Council of Chapters. Active in legislative efforts for MOAA and Unified Arizona Veterans. Commander of Military Order of the World Wards Apache Trail Chapter; active in Army National Guard Family Assistance Program. Member of Daedalions, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tempe Rotary Club and Voices Take Flight
Veteran Service Organizations (VSO's) Comprising UAV
Any veterans' service organization (VSO), and its auxiliary, recognized by Arizona Department of Veterans' Services is eligible for membership in UAV.
